Dull thunder rolled across the dark, clouded sky. Occasional drops
of rain, the kind that stings cold as it hits the skin and steals warmth, fell on the browning grass and splashed on the granite gravestones of the old cemetery. The autumn trees had but dropped their leaves for the winter, and the wet, brown leaves drummed with the pitter patter of the slow, light drizzle. Only a few remained on the limbs of the giant, twisted oaks that surrounded the old cemetery. Trees with branches almost as thick as the trunk, dressed with long strands of Spanish moss that creeped down from their colossal limbs November 19 Part 1
